Halloween 2006
Finally back to blogging after a few days of rest. Oh man, really got so many interesting stuffs to share, especially on Halloween!!! Oh ya, by the way, today's the actual day so wishing everyone out there a very Happy Halloween Day. Gosh, why am i over here in S'pore when it's like so happening on this very day over at those westernized countries. Now u see why i'm gonna leave s'pore 1 fine day & never coming back to this tiny island for good, given my fun-seeking nature & character.
Well, it all started at the beginning of the week after MOS during the casual talk we had amongst Pris, Tim, me & a few others. That was when the idea struck me that i've GOT to attend this year's halloween party over at zouk. Actually, i've been dying to go ever since a few years back, but always end of the day didn't had the chance to make it cos of r/s commitments, always hafta accompany my gf since she doesn't wanna go. U know, sometimes when ur partner doesn't wanna go & gives u all sorts of hints telling u to stay by herside, at the end of the day, being such a loving & doting bf like i once was, i was never going to make it for this wonderful & happening annual party. Afterall, what's halloween? Well, it's a tradition celebrated on 31st Oct, whereby ppl of all ages dressed up in costumes & goes from door-to-door collecting sweets etc. though over here i'm sure that no one would ever knock on your door asking u for sweets or what cos surely would end up being turned away, some even abusing u with colorful languages. Haha. That's the mindset of most singaporeans, & i'm sure no one would be so free & daring to go do all these "bo liao" stuffs. Over here, most ppl just dressed up in costumes & hang out at places like zouk & MOS or at some friend's house party during halloween. As halloween fell on tuesday & it being a working day, hence most places held their halloween parties a few days before, on sat nite mostly. But trust me, over the years, halloween at zouk was still to be the best & most happening place in town. Thus, after our discussion, we decided to head to zouk all dressed up in costumes come sat nite, though the ladies weren't keen on that idea, especially Pris. As the days grew nearer, i was getting more & more frustrated as i could not decide on what character to dress up as. Something humourous, scary, superhero kind blah blah blah. Oh man, didn't know was such a headache. In the end, decided that my theme for this year would be on something that looked scary & gruesome. Haha. Yeah! Finally came down to 2 choices after brainstorming for so long, which was between Count Dracula or Frankenstein. After thinking it over, i decided to go ahead with Mr Dracula as i was very sure that Mr Franky would be very difficult a task to dress up as. Furthermore, time was running out already...

Frankenstein? I chose the latter in the end. Finally, on friday evening, i went down to this place at Aliwal St to look for this shop called "No.1 Costume Costume" which had claimed to be the largest costume store over in s'pore. Well, i had to get all my stuffs ready for halloween rite. Just kept my fingers crossed that the stuffs i was looking for were still available. It was quite difficult at first to find the shop as all i knew of it was that it was located somewhere opposite the Concourse building which was at Beach Rd. However, given the smart st knowledge which i possessed, it soon took me just a few minutes before i finally found the place. It was like a ghost town on the outside, all deserted & quiet but once i stepped into the shop, man, really took me by surprise. The whole place was so chaotic & true to their words, their shop was really very big, with rows & rows of assorted costumes & many various kinds of wigs, masks & accessories. Omg! I was stunned for quite sometime, just browsing at all the different stuffs which they had. Furthermore, there were so many ppl in the shop, running here & there with their costumes & stuffs in their hands, while some just tried it out on the spot & showing off to the many ppl that were there. Really quite a funny sight to behold. So many different characters; samba dancer, elvis, snow white, cowboy etc. Woah! Just by seeing all those ppl over there looking for their items like me had me imaginating that the halloween party would surely be mind-blowing to say the least! Played around with a few of the different masks & accessories while waiting for Eddy to arrive as i need his comments on my costume, but sad to say, he ended up waiting for me over at Fusion instead as he called up last minute to tell me that the place was out of the way for him. Was bit disappointed but what to do, afterall i flew his "aeroplane" so much more times then he flew mine. Back to the main subject, thank god for me that there were still 2 more costumes under the category for dracula. They were almost similar cept for the pants, 1 being black whereas the other was white. Tried both sets of costume over at the fitting room for quite sometime before deciding eventually on the black 1 as white top & white pants wouldn't look as classy as white with black. After getting my costume, i finally left Aliwal St with some glee on my face. However, being the careless idiot which i was, guess what i forgotten to get over there(p.s a very impt thing)? Haha. Most of u must be scratching ya heads by now. Well, i actually managed to forget bout my vampire's fangs. Yes, that's rite! Imagine being a dracula w/o fangs. Omg! Faint! Actually, i wasn't entirelly to blame too as Eddy kept calling me to hurry down to Fusion for our game of pool, thus, i totally forgotten bout it. Decided to head over to town the next day to get all the necessary items which i needed. Below are the pics of my costume:

Due to anxiety & excitement, i couldn't sleep for the whole freaking nite. Ended up playing soccer early in the morning with Eddy & friends over at Permei area before heading to 1 costume shop over at Lucky Plaza. Gosh, i was wondering to myself what would become of me when nite falls given that i haven't slept a single bit & now having just played a gruelling match of soccer under the hot sun. Surely would be like a zombie in the nite, but then again, i was going to dress up as Mr Dracula, hence doesn't really make any difference. Haha! Got my pair of fangs which wasn't easy at all to decide as they had a few different kinds & some white face paint due to dracula's face being whitish in color. It just looks wierd seeing a "cheenah" looking vampy lah! I knew bout all these after researching on some dracula info over the net the night before. Next stop, went over to Toys'r'us at Forum to get some fake blood due to it being sold out over at the shop at Lucky Plaza. In order to create something that's gruesome, i definitely need that. Slacked around over in town till evening time before heading home to start my transformation into Mr Vampy, aka Count Dracula!!! Haha.

Bloody hell, this small container of paint cost me a bomb as it's used by those professionals due to the reason that the paint would last even after sweating profusely.The vampire's fangs which i finally decided on. This was the scariest fangs but also 1 of the more expensive piece.
Throughout the process of making up & turning myself into dracula, my lil' bro kept laughing at me non-stop, saying i looked more like a joker instead. Honestly speaking, the hardest part was applying the face paint onto my face, cos it was quite sticky & wet hence making my job much more difficult. But before i did that, i had to make sure of my hairdo first, which i applied a thick layer of gel onto it followed by spraying hairwax like as though i was spraying insecticides to kill away those unwanted pests. After doing all that, it was time to finally don the dracula's costume. However, found that my shirt was bit loose hence used safety pins to make it tighter. There after came the face part. After everything was done, finally came the fun part; playing with the artificial blood. Haha. Applied it all over the napkin part & parts of my face, before the most important part, which was the mouth area as dracula's mouth is always bloody from sucking others blood.

Hail Lord Count Dracula!!!
Haha. Had fun taking all these pics at home before i left for zouk. Not too bad rite my overall image, though i wished that i could be slightly scarier. Later on, i had to beg my bro to accompany me down to flag for a cab as i was sure that it would be quite embarassing facing everyone around my area. Can u imagine seeing a vampire looking guy walking around during a normal sat nite? No rite. Anyway, just as i had expected, i received my fair share of wierd stares, some even laughing away upon seeing me while some ran away saying that i really looked scary. Ha! Along the road side, while waiting for cab, a few cars purposely slowed down & lower their windows just to take a look. Very funny rite, as if they have never seen anyone in costume before. Anyway, really grateful to my bro for accompanying me all the way.
Well, by then, the lovely Pris was already waiting over at the entrance of zouk for me while i was on the way there. She sms me saying that there were lots of ppl & that the queue was freaking long. She even doubted that we could enter the club as there really was plenty of ppl. I told her to wait for me patiently while i arrived, feelings all hyped up & excited. To think i was so shy earlier over at my area, but i heaved a sigh of relief upon reaching zouk as there were plenty, i really mean plenty of ppl dressed up in costumes. Suddenly, i was like 1 of them, did not feel odd anymore. Met up with Pris soon after. She was quite surprised upon seeing me, afterall this being the first time she ever saw me in this type of wierd image. She complimented me, saying i was really sporting & really look like a true vampire! I mean, come on, this is Halloween ya know, time to let down your hair & have some fun. We went to a corner for some final touch up; Pris touching up my make-up for me, drawing my eyes with thick eye-liner & applying reddish lipstick for me. The finale was the best though, squeezing the artificial blood onto my mouth to make it drip all over, so as to ensure it looking realistic. However, by doing so, i accidentally swallowed down those fake blood. Yucks! The taste was damn sucky. Next up, she did some final touch-up on herself. Oh ya, by the way, both of us had some sort of a theme like that for the nite. She suggested being some sort of school gal who was being bitten by me, Dracula. Hence, to make the bite looked real, i drew 2 holes on the left side of her neck, before smearing the fake blood all over it, some even dripping onto her shirt.

We had contemplated on going to MOS(they too were celebrating Halloween) if we couldn't get into zouk as the queue was really freaking long, stretched all the way till the back. Haiz. However, after some serious thoughts, we decided to give it a go. There were a few queues that nite, but the right queue that we were supposed to queue up at was at the costume queue as that was where everyone who was in costume could get in for free. No cover charge as that was the rule every year, as long as ya dressed up in costume from head to toe, they would waive away your cover charge. Surprisingly, what seemed like going to take a million years before we could enter the club turned out to be just a mere 20 plus minutes. That was actually how fast the queue was moving, though only the costume queue. Luckily, did not go over to MOS man, if not surely would had regretted it. At the entrance, there were a few judges like, who were there to determine whether or not ur costume was deemed fit enough for them to allow u free entry, if not u had to pay over at the counter. Pris was unlucky though as she was told that she had to pay for cover. Actually, she wasn't the only one as many ppl had to pay, some even in full costume though the judges did not seem to agree with them. Luckily for me, i had free access into zouk, though seriously one look at me & it's quite obvious lah that i'm in costume. Haha.
From my previous years of experience at Halloween in zouk, i sort of expected what was installed for us, though this was Pris's virgin Halloween trip. Once in, many ppl were eagerly taking photos of one another, all in different types of costumes, mainly for momentos & memories. I could see from the look on her face that she was like a small little gal like that, so excited, kept wanting to take photos with this guy or that gal. Omg, like so sua ku like that. But then again, i was also bit similar to her in the past hence didn't really had any rights to say her. We walked around zouk looking to see if we could find anyone we knew, while waiting for our group of friends, Tim & gang to arrive. They were late as per norm. I did saw a few friends over there, like Carol, Becky etc. So cute lah, seeing each other in costume. Ha! Pris & i were like scampering around zouk looking for nice characters to take photos with, however, ahem, we were instead stopped by many ppl that were requesting to take a pic with Mr Dracula. Haha. Not that i'm boasting or what but it's really the truth. All of them kept saying that i looked so scary, so bloody, so eerie, so many so. But felt a sense of satisfaction as i achieved my target, which was to have a scary & gruesome image. Went to Phuture to look for Tim & gang later on in the nite. Gosh, it was god damn crowded in there. I barely could walk as it was so packed & everyone was squeezing here & there. To make matters worst, every few steps in which i walked, i had to stop for awhile as my long cape was being stepped on & i couldn't move. Haiz, really regretted a little bit on chosing to be Dracula as there were 3 disadvantages. No.1 - cape being stepped on; No.2 - really freaking hot to be in costume as my whole body was sweating like hell; No.3 - Damn difficult to dance in that god damn costume. Pris was laughing her socks off seeing me dance to the r&b rhythm. Even i myself found it to be quite amusing too. Tim, Jay & a few others were amazed by how i looked though it wasn't that surprising considering this was the first ever time they saw me in such wierd image. Most of them were like "Eeuw, ya sooo scary & bloody Mr Dracula. Dun bite me k." Haha. Damn fun lah. As the nite bore on, we took plenty more pics & danced like crazy vampires before deciding to call it a day. By then, was already like 3 plus in the morning though for the first time ever, we decided against going for supper as we agreed that it would be best for me if i went home straight since i looked really wierd. As i was on my way back home, just looking back at all the pics which we took, really gave me a sense of satisfaction. I've achieved my aims for halloween this year. Really felt great to be single, no commitments, did not have to report my whereabouts to my gf or whatever. The feeling was realli good. Been such a long time coming already. Wondered to myself what would i be dressed up as next year. How bout trying to be "sun wu kong" or maybe even being "yang guo" while Pris was my "xiao long nu". Haha. All the wierd ideas started to crap into my brain. Anyway, below are just a few pics which i really liked alot out of the many pics we took, which was more then a hundred pics can u believe it anot? Last but not least, i really wanna take this opportunity to thank the lovely Pris for being there by my side that nite. Thanks for everything u've done for me. I really appreciate it very much, and will never ever forget the joy & laughter we had on halloween this year, not to mention the memories which both of us shared together.
